As part of the preparation for our 20 years celebrations, our Chinese Bronzes and Women’s Library collections will be closed from Monday 26 February, reopening with the rest of our new season on Thursday 21 March.

Capability Brown Festival Information Day

At Compton Verney tomorrow, Wednesday 18th June, we’re playing hosts to a Capability Brown Festival Information Day. Although this is a private event, engagement activities will be placed around the grounds from midday onwards – therefore, if you’re wondering which afternoon you should visit this week – Wednesday would be ideal!

For information, the event has been pre-booked by around 100 delegates who are by and large a collection of owners and managers of Capability Brown landscapes across the country. The event (now fully booked I believe) is organised by the CB300 festival committee, and has been set up in this instance to update folks about their Heritage Lottery Funded ‘Festival’ project. In addition to this, there will be workshops on the subjects of audience development, and different ways of working with volunteers. All with the intention of rallying support for the 2016 Capability Brown Tercentenary.

All the above and more will I’m sure make for an information packed day, along with a perfect opportunity to talk Capability Brown – which I’m always happy to do!

As part of Compton Verney’s support for the event, we have organised a few engagement activities for the grounds, so if you’re planning to visit the grounds tomorrow afternoon, you’d be most welcome to stop by and make the most of the opportunity. The outdoor volunteers are to be in place from midday through to 5pm, with a remit to inform, engage and where possible – entertain!

You can expect:

  • Landscape interpreters – stationed at key positions
  • Beekeeping Demonstration/Talk – West Lawn
  • Georgian Costumed Landscape Demonstration/Talk/Display – Lawn in front of mansion
  • Forest School Activity – Woodland at the end of the Wellingtonia Avenue
  • Contemporary Surveyor of Compton Verney (Returning for one afternoon only!) – East Park
  • Hands On History Ice Cream Talk/Demonstration – At the Ice House

Hopefully we have provided a good cross-section of grounds related engagement that will be of interest to both delegates and regular visitors alike.

If you’re not able to visit, you could follow progress of the day on twitter using #CapabilityBrown or #CVGrounds – do look us up & join in the conversation!
