Delve further into the world of historical and contemporary automata, learning more about their history, significance and what they tell us about society and culture.
Join Franziska Kohlt, researcher in English and History of Science from the University of Oxford as she reveals the tales behind the machines. We will traverse from the mythological Prometheus and Pygmalion, to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and E.T.A Hoffmann’s chilling Sandman, to modern-day Artificial Intelligence, to show how automata have and continue to hold up a mirror to reality.
