For a limited six-week period, in a small gallery just off the entrance foyer of the house, discover new interpretations of traditional folk rituals.
Inspired by dowsing, folk customs and communal gathering, Returning Currents is an invitation to share a ritual of movement. Responsive projections and sound react to your presence, revealing a future entity to interact with.
Throughout, ritual altars offer fragments of an imagined culture that uses divination as a playful, embodied way of exploring uncertainty. The soundscape, co-created with community groups from both Compton Verney and Scala Worcester, draws on traditions of communal and vocal group singing, weaving contemporary voices into this imagined future ceremony.
This artwork is inspired by the people, waterscapes and the objects that connect the landscapes of Compton Verney and Scala Worcester. It channels the lived currents of landscapes and our own bodies to create a ritual that glitches between past, present and future.
