Saturday 6 July 2024, 2 - 4.30pm

A very special Curator Tour and Tea with acclaimed art critic, writer and curator Hettie Judah, artist Permindar Kaur and Compton Verney’s Director of Creative Programmes and Engagement Abigail Viner.

You’ll take a guided tour of our current exhibition A Spirit Inside with internationally acclaimed voice on contemporary art Hettie Judah (Guardian, Apollo, Frieze and the Times Literary Supplement), and Compton Verney’s Abigail Viner as they discuss years of creative expression by women and non-binary artists. From internal musings to powerful social commentary informed by Hettie Judah’s acclaimed work on artist mothers, gain new and invaluable insights into this exhibition drawn from two of the UK’s leading art collections and featuring Permindar Kaur’s Turbans among many other inspiring pieces.

You will also embark on a Sculpture Tour of the grounds with Abigail Viner where you’ll explore our Sculpture in the Park with a focus on the work Overgrown House with the artist, Permindar Kaur, exploring notions of house and home.

Followed by an intimate Q&A with Permindar and Hettie, this is a unique opportunity to explore our exhibitions with experts, ask questions and chat over tea and delicious cake in our café.

Copies of Hettie’s new book Acts of Creation: On Art and Motherhood (published 4 July 2024) will be available to purchase and have signed on the day.

Hettie Judah

Hettie Judah is a regular contributor to The Guardian, Apollo, Frieze and The Times Literary Supplement. She is the curator of the new Hayward Gallery Touring exhibition Acts of Creation: On Art and Motherhood which is currently on show at the Arnolfini in Bristol and travelling the UK over the next 18 months.

Her recent books include Lapidarium: The Secret Lives of Stones (2022). Thames & Hudson will publish the stand-alone book Acts of Creation: On Art and Motherhood in July 2024.

permindar kaur

Permindar Kaur’s (b. 1965, Nottingham) artistic practice extends over more than three decades during which time she has become one of Britain’s most innovative artists. Known as much for her deft manipulation of materials including glass, metal, and fabric, as for her evocative exploration of home, childhood, memory and cultural identity,

Kaur’s practice defies easy categorisation. With its fastidious regard for scale and form, Kaur’s work is both alluring and contemplative.
