One Misty Morning

We have been treated to some lovely mild autumn days recently, the last few in particular preceded by chilly early mornings. The middle and upper pools at Compton Verney respond beautifully to this sort of weather, and Monday this week was one to treasure – thankfully I had a camera with me!

Most often it is our anglers who, starting at the break of day are exposed to such amazing conditions. Although very cool, the air is still and the mist hangs in clouds above the surface of the lake, drifting ghost like. Birds, whilst seemingly happy in the trees are edgy, and all too willing to announce ones presence – which often sets moorhens a running across the water – high drama at any time of the day!

The pool is often perfectly still and mirror like, reflecting the opposing banks and their features; the classic reflected view of the gallery captured countless times before – never fails to impress. So do the ripples, radiating gently, and caused most often by the great crested grebe or a fishy flick of a tail fin.

Of course, this special atmosphere caused by the chilly onset of autumn doesn’t last too long, and by the time our visitors arrive it is often long gone, and hopefully replaced by much warmer temperatures. I therefore thought it worth posting a handful of images, not the finest I must say, but enough I hope to give a different flavour of the landscape we know and love.
