Introduction to Scything Workshop

Introduction to Scything Workshop

Following on from the successful scything workshop last year, Flora Locale are once again returning to the green and pleasant Compton Verney to deliver a beginners workshop.

Clive Leeke explaining the history of scything

Clive Leeke explaining the history of scything

At this beginner’s workshop you will be personally fitted with a scythe and learn to use and maintain it to efficiently mow your garden, allotment, orchard or meadow. Starting from setting up the scythe, you will discuss safe working practices and then start to mow. Learn to care for your scythe: avoiding damage, sharpening the blade, and peening the edge will be covered in this “hands-on” day. The history of the scythe and its use in maintaining wild flower meadows and ecologically sensitive grassland will be discussed.
