Artsmark

Artsmark is the creative quality standard for schools and education settings, awarded by Arts Council England, recognising their commitment to high quality arts and cultural education.

Compton Verney is proud to support schools and education settings on their Artsmark journey, inspiring children and young people to create, experience, and participate in great arts and culture.

We offer education settings who are working towards, or currently hold an Artsmark Award, with the following opportunities:

  • Delivery of Arts Award at Discover and Explore level
  • Bespoke programmes (resource dependent)
  • A range of creative workshops with curriculum links to art & design, history, science, maths including:

Key Stage 1 Faces and feelings – Discover more about our portraits, learn about emotions and facial expressions and sculpt a self-portrait from air-drying clay

Key Stage 1 and 2 Face to face – Investigate portraits of Henry VIII, Elizabeth I and Edward VI. Explore symbolism, handle replica objects and costumes, and create a Tudor-style self-portrait using watercolour.

 

Key Stage 2 Clay containers – travel from Neapolitan Italy to 20th century Britain investigating the form, function, materials and processes of making vessels, followed by a practical activity to make a clay pot. Rituals and Bronzes: The Shang Dynasty of Ancient China Learn about dynastic life and religion by investigating what our outstanding collection of ancient bronzes were used for and how they were made.  Handle an original and make a vessel using clay.

Key Stage 2 & 3 Pattern, shape, design – be a textile designer for a day: explore the shapes and properties of our fabulous designs by Enid Marx and work in teams to create repeat patterns and a silk screen printed panel. Mysterious landscapes Visit an erupting volcano, a shipwreck and a bustling city to investigate the theme of landscape, exploring composition, perspective and atmosphere in the paintings and grounds. Students will create their own mixed media landscape.

Cost: £7.50 per student, min charge £120, teachers go free. Additional charges apply for bespoke programmes.
