Wild Escape Family Day

Come celebrate Earth Day and the opening of our new outdoor sound installation Living Symphonies. Our Wild Escape programme is jammed packed full of free creative family activities celebrating the wildlife on our doorstep from pottery workshops to pond dipping. Can you follow the flight of the dragonfly through our galleries and grounds?

A valid day ticket or membership is required for this event.

Clay Dragonfly workshop, 10:30am – 4pm – in the Studio

Come along and be creative with clay. This is a drop-in activity to do with your family. Located in the learning studio, there’s no need to book, but it may be busier at certain times throughout the day. Suitable for ages 3+

Guided Pond Dipping Sessions – meet at the pond dipping platform

Join our Forest School leaders for a guided pond dipping session to celebrate our pond dipping area reopening with brand new equipment!
Booking is essential on the day. Book at the Pond Dipping platform, arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Times: 10:30–11:15am, 11:30am–12:15pm, 1–1:45pm, 2–2:45pm, 3-3.45pm

Living Symphonies: Meet the Artist – Meet at the Boathouse Coppice gate

Join the creators of Living Symphonies Daniel Jones and James Bulley, a they talk through how Living Symphonies was created, and the biodiversity living in the coppice at Compton Verney. Meet at Boat House Coppice gate, at the end of Old Town Meadow. Please note there is a 15-20 minute walk from the Welcome Centre to the location.

Times: 11am, 12pm & 3pm

New Wild Escape Gallery Activity Guide – Sketching Trolley in the galleries

A new family guide can be picked up from the sketching trolley, located in the galleries. Help Flash the Dragonfly as she searches for the perfect habitat.

Meet the Artist: Jacqui Symons of Slow Lane Studio: Natural Dyes

The allotment is having a revamp into a Sensory Garden. Join Jacqui Symons for a creative drop-in activity to celebrate the plants on our doorstep! Jacqui will share the vision for this new area, what’s being planted? What dyes can we make?

To get the Sensory Garden, take a mindful walk through our meadow just at the beginning of the season, watch out for cowslips and early pollinators along the way!
Meet at the stretch tent at the back of the house.

Discovery Room

Colour in, make and take paper animal creations to take home!  Don’t forget to upload a photo of your artwork to the Wild Escape website to be park of a UK – Wide digital artwork!

Spring Nature Explorer backpack

Explorer back packs are available at the Welcome Centre, they contain magnifying glasses and animal ID cards to help you on your journey of discovery around the grounds.

Be part of The Wild Escape, a nationwide celebration of UK nature inspired by the wildlife found in museum and galleries. The Wild Escape is made possible with support from Arts Council England’s National Lottery Project Grants, with additional support from Bloomberg Philanthropies, Kusuma Trust, Foyle Foundation and a group of generous individuals and trusts.

Don’t forget – any artwork made by children on the day that is inspired by animals in our collection/grounds can be uploaded onto the Wild Escape website and photos uploaded can be added to a collective digital artwork that will be live until the end of the Great Big Green Week (10 – 18 June 2023)
