Meet the Artist

We are delighted to be joined by Justine Warner: Textiles and Mixed Media Artist.

Justine is a Textile and Mixed Media artist who works from her studio in Sheriff Hutton, North Yorkshire.

Trained as an Interior Designer and working as a DT and FT teacher in Secondary School for over 30 years she has recently found a passion for working in Textiles based on the local landscapes of mainly Yorkshire and the Howardian Hills. She has focused on this work for around 6 years now and has had success at exhibitions including the Yorkshire Arboretum, Ripon Cathedral, Scampston Hall and the National Trust property Nunnington Hall. She specialises in mainly landscapes and seascapes but has most recently developed her work to include architecture and manmade structures. She has also exhibited at a number of local galleries and open studios.

Although her work is mixed media, her passion lies in working in recycled fabric. Particularly vintage ties for their diverse patterns and beautiful rich colours. She then layers and blends the ties to give them a much more painterly feel to the finished pieces. She also runs workshops and classes on this type of work but also experimental textiles using a range of very unusual materials and techniques. This is part of the work she loves as passing on her skills to others is very important. Classes come in many guises including Zoom, face to face from her own studio and longer workshops in a number of places across the country.

Her more recent adventure includes a trip to Compton Verney where she took part in one of the heats on SkyArts Landscape Artist of the Year. Although not the winner of the heat she was one of the chosen three to be considered and has gone on to work through a range of diverse commissions from interest the programme generated.
