Collecting the award from Penny Stott, Stratford Ramblers.

Our path runs across the historic East Park, under which lies the ‘Old Town’ of Compton Murdak. The mown public right of way leads walkers through acres of wild flowers and recently planted trees that are forming a new wood pasture. At this time of year the path is a little damp under foot, but the views from the top of the field are certainly worth the trek. For visitors to the gallery, there is also a circular path which is mown to encourage visitors to explore the east park and its views.

Stratford-upon-Avon Ramblers have held a ”Best Kept Footpath” competition for the last five years to show their appreciation to landowners who go that extra mile in maintaining the footpaths over their land. I accepted the award on behalf of Compton Verney from Chairman Penny Stott, at the AGM of the Stratford Ramblers on Sat 29th Nov and explained how Compton Verney plans to further improve the paths on their land.

Members of  Stratford-upon-Avon Ramblers have enjoyed nearly 200 walks in the surrounding countryside this year with a great variety of levels from 4 mile gentle pace to 12 mile all day walks. There has also been a popular monthly coach trip during the summer to walking destinations further afield.  The group also organises social events and an annual holiday.  Stratford Ramblers has a regular working party which helps to clear and maintain footpaths and, in conjunction with the County Council, helps with the construction of stiles, gates and footbridges.

If you are interested in walking with the group, please contact Judy Klinkenberg – secretary on 01789 841404  judy@judyklinkenberg.plus.com
