Lecture and Book Signing by Alan Powers

To coincide with the publication of Enid Marx: The Pleasures of Pattern, writer and teacher Alan Powers, who knew Enid Marx in her last decade will give a talk and book signing about his new biography.

Enid Marx (1902–1998) was a leading artist and designer, collector and writer, who played an important role in British cultural life in the mid twentieth century. Associated with Eric Ravilious and Edward Bawden in the ‘outbreak of talent’ at the Royal College of Art in the 1920s, she excelled as a designer and printer of hand-blocked fabrics before branching into industrial woven patterns for London Underground, the wartime Utility Furniture Scheme, book illustration and postage stamps.

Compton Verney’s Marx-Lambert Collection features both work produced by Marx and a large number of pieces of folk or popular art which were collected by Marx and her friend Margaret Lambert.
