Arts Award at Compton Verney

Compton Verney is a registered Arts Award Centre and Supporter with a team of trained Advisors at Discover, Explore, Bronze and Silver level.

We have a range of activities and opportunities that help to deliver Arts Award at all levels.

We can support parts A and B through any of our gallery based school visits.

Part A: discover

  • Students will see different artworks in the gallery and take part in a practical activity.

Part B: find out

  • Students will explore artists in the gallery and create their own artwork related to what they have discovered.
  • We also have our own Arts Award Discover trail available for £3 from our shop.

We can support parts A, B and C through any of our regular gallery based school visits.

Part A: inspire

  • Students take part in a practical art workshop that explores a specific technique or artform.

Part B: explore

  • Students explore the work of artists in the gallery and through the related practical workshop.
  • They explore Compton Verney and will have the opportunity to ask questions about the gallery.

Part C: create

  • Students will make their own artwork in a practical workshop

We can support parts A, B and C through any of our gallery based school visits.

Part A: explore the arts as a participant

  • Students participate in a practical workshop that explores a specific technique or artform.  They will be encouraged to reflect on their own practice and take inspiration from others through discussions and practical activities.

Part B: explore the arts as an audience member

  • Students will visit the gallery with a member of the Learning Team and be encouraged to take part in discussion to form their own views about the works they see.

Part C: arts hero and heroines

  • Students will be introduced to the work of artists on their visit.  They could use what they discover on their visit to support their research into an arts hero or heroine.

We can support Unit 1 parts C and D through our full day programmes and talk and tours. If students are doing art based challenges visits could also support parts A and B.

Part C: review arts events

  • Students will visit the gallery with a member of the Learning Team and be encouraged to take part in discussion to form their own views about the works they see.

Part D: learn about artists and arts organisations through visits and/or participation

  • Students will be introduced to the work of artists during their gallery visit
  • Students will have the opportunity to talk to a member of the learning team about Compton Verney as an arts organisation and find out about the roles within the organisation as part of their visit.

We can support Unit 1 parts B and C through volunteering opportunities or work experience days and placements. We can also provide talks and question and answer sessions for young people visiting Compton Verney.

Part B: identify and use development opportunities and sources of information within the wider arts sector

  • We offer volunteering opportunities and a limited number of work experience placements for young people.
  • We run a regular programme of workshops, talks and events

Part C: research and review the work of more advanced practitioners and explore relationship to own practice

  • Through volunteering or work experience young people will get the opportunity to work alongside more advanced practitioners.
  • Through talks and tours students will have the opportunity young people can explore the work of more advance practitioners with a member of the Learning Team.

Part D: form and communicate a view on issues of concern that affect their art form sector

  • During visits to the gallery, volunteering or work experience placements we are happy to discuss a young person’s chosen issue.
