National Tree Week

This week (25th November – 3rd December) sees the return of National Tree Week. Managed by The Tree Council, it is ‘the largest UK tree celebration – annually launching the start of the winter tree planting season’. Many events are planned around the country from identification sessions to community planting opportunities of group and specimen trees, so do check out the Tree Council web link for your nearest event.

Compton Verney’s own tree planting sessions have been delayed this season due to landscaping works, but we’re keen to support the National Tree Week initiative and will be joining in the web based conversation this week through a series of blog posts about trees in and near Compton Verney. We’ll be using the hashtags #NationalTreeWeek and #CVgrounds

If you’re thinking of planting a tree or two this season, or maybe thinking of adopting or buying a tree as a gift for someone; then do inspire others by sharing a picture on social media, or join in the activity.

In our posts we’ll mention interesting facts about the trees in our care including our wonderful Wellingtonia Walk – one of three avenues of this species within a five mile radius and our magnificent Plane trees more often seen ‘pollarded’ in the garden squares of London. We’ll also post about some of our favourite smaller specimens, suitable maybe for smaller garden spaces.

So, if you’re a tree lover do look out for the Compton Verney updates, & do feel free to throw any tree related questions our way – we can but try to answer!

Regards, Gary Webb, Head of Landscape & Gardens at Compton Verney.
