As part of the preparation for our 20 years celebrations we will have to have a brief period of partial closure, from Tuesday 5 – Wednesday 20 March when the house (including the shop and café) will be closed to the public. Our grounds will remain open. To find out more, please visit our opening times and prices page to find out more.

Shuttle Us Towards a Greener Future

Following the generosity and support of over 320 members and friends of Compton Verney, we successfully raised £30,000 to make the vital repairs to our bridge. The work will begin in November!

We now need your support to buy a new emission free electric shuttle bus, with wheelchair access, to replace our current diesel fuelled shuttle, which is becoming increasingly more unreliable, affecting our ability to transport visitors.

Our galleries are 580m from our Welcome Centre and whilst the walk is beautiful, we know that the shuttle bus is absolutely vital for visitors with limited mobility, wheelchair users, small children or those who are simply a bit tired.

The new bus will be fully electric, meaning it will be emission free and help reduce the carbon output of our shuttle bus by 93%. It will seat eight people and will carry wheelchairs as well as passengers on foot, costing around £36,000.

Which means that it produces over 2.5 tonnes of carbon. We can’t deny we need a more eco-friendly method of connecting our visitors of art, nature and creativity.

As a charity we rely on donations to support everything we do. It costs over £4 million a year to run Compton Verney with government funding contributing only 3%, so we simply couldn’t exist without charitable support. Recent inflation and substantial increase in energy prices have had a major impact on us, but we are still committed to ensuring everyone can access our amazing galleries and learning spaces.

Compton Verney is a charity that exists to connect people, art, nature, and creativity.
