Summerspace

Take inspiration from our Volcano exhibition and enter our atmospheric volcanic space where the whole family can take part in fun, volcano themed arty activities throughout the summer.
Mosaic making
Tues 27 July - Fri 6 August, 12pm - 4pm
Join artist Beccy Roberts in making a giant mosaic inspired by those found in Pompeii. Design your own tile and add it to a larger volcanic image.
Collograph printing
Sat 7 August - Sun 5 Sept, 12pm - 4pm
Make a print relief inspired by Hiroshige's Japanese woodcuts in the Volcano exhibition using a range of materials to build up your own image of an erupting volcano.
Dance workshop

Sign up to take part in these exciting one-off dance workshops led by Motionhouse dancers. Use your body to express the forces of nature through movement.
Dance performance
Wed 25 August, 12 noon and 2.30pm
See dancers balance, fall, fly through the air, slide and tumble in this dramatic spectacle as they portray a family trapped on the rooftop of a submerged house trying to escape the power of nature.
Bank Holiday The Big Bang

Make a bang this Bank Holiday! Sign up for one of our workshops and make your own volcanic explosions using cooking ingredients such as baking soda and vinegar. Build up your own mountain of earth and watch it erupt.
Myths and legends from beyond
Sat 4 and Sun 5 September, 12.30pm - 2.30pm
Storyteller Julie Cooper will lead you into a world of exploration through our Volcano exhibition. Hear stories come to life through costumes, tales, myths and legends of old.
Cookery school: Junior summer bakery for 8 to 14 years
Mon 26 July, 9.30am - 12.30pm or 1.30pm - 4.30pm
Accompany your children to this half-day workshop where they'll get to make chocolate and jelly tots cupcakes, banoffie pie, toffee and fudge flapjacks.
