Press Release: October 2006
Compton Verney wins Gold in Tourism Awards
Compton Verney, Warwickshire’s largest art gallery, has won Gold as Visitor Attraction of the Year (Small) in the prestigious Heart of England Excellence in Tourism Awards 2005.
The awards were presented at a gala dinner last night at Worcester Cathedral, attended by around 300 guests and hosted by Kay Alexander, BBC News Presenter and Sir William Lawrence OBE, Chairman of Heart of England Tourism.
These awards are the tourism industry's 'Oscars'. They recognise quality and celebrate the contribution that tourism businesses and their destinations make to the Heart of England region. As a Gold winner Compton Verney will now progress to the Enjoy England Excellence Awards 2006, where it will represent the Heart of England in the national competition.
Compton Verney opened to the public in 2004 after a ten year period of restoration, which saw the previously derelict Robert Adam mansion transformed into a gallery of international standing. Over twenty gallery spaces have been created, housing six permanent collections and a changing programme of temporary exhibitions.
Situated in 120 acres of parkland, Compton Verney provides a perfect day out for all the family. In addition to its exhibitions, the venue hosts a wide range of events and activities, including film screenings, concerts, lectures and workshops for adults and children.
