British Portraits Collection
The British Portraits collection includes a selection of works relating to the history of fine art and decorative art in England. Visitors to Compton Verney when it was the home of the Verney family may have seen works like these in the main rooms of the house. Portraits of familiar Tudor figures such as Henry VIII are accompanied by lesser-known figures such as the Elizabethan courtier Thomas Knyvet. There are also some significant pieces of furniture, such as a table that may have been commissioned by Queen Mary II.
